Clear walkways, steps, railings and the porch. Remove damaged planters, excess shoes, recycling bins and seasonal items that do not support the current presentation. Check that the house number is visible.
Use a short maintenance checklist
Small maintenance issues can signal that larger details were also overlooked. Focus on the areas buyers see at close range while they wait for the door to open.
- Clean the front door, glass, hardware and exterior lights.
- Sweep hard surfaces and remove weeds or dead plant material.
- Replace a worn doormat with a simple, appropriately sized one.
- Use healthy seasonal greenery only where it can be maintained.
Keep exterior styling subordinate to the home
One or two intentional elements are usually enough. Too many signs, small pots or decorative objects create the same visual clutter outside that sellers work to remove indoors.
After the entrance is prepared, carry the same level of clarity into the foyer and first photographed room so the first impression continues naturally.
